    WOW! I finished chapter 1 this morning…I wish I could have kept reading. I cannot imagine how Joe must have felt being left as “the man of the house.”

    It’s also so interesting to me how this takes place so close to home!

    Love,
    Ms. Byrd

  26.   BookBlogger1 Says:

    Joey seems very weak, scared, and confused. I wonder how Joey’s mother will react to this imformation? I think that the men of the town are trying to come up with a plan in the absence aofJoey’s father and it is not going so well. I wonder if Joey’s father is alive(Joey seems to think so)?

  27.   BookBlogger1 Says:

    I think Joey has never lost a loved one before, because he is hoping very badly that his father is alive. Being the man of the house must have been very hard back then.
    @H&S

  28.   BookBlogger1 Says:

    Jessica, why do you think so?
    Chase, I agree with you.
    @H&S

  29.   BookBlogger1 Says:

    In chapter 4 the British are coming and the town is going to surrender. I think that the British are going to take over their house and the children will get scared. Joey thinks that all British are bad, I think that some are n’t that bad. Joey takes things much too seriously. Why does Joey try to do things himself instead of asking for help.

  30.   Mrs. Byrd Fort Says:

    Jessica,

    I think Joey is so upset about Enoch Groves because it scares him! Joey doesn’t want that to happen to him or his father…to know that something like that COULD even happen at all is enough to scare me!

    Love,
    Ms. Byrd
